Chapter 72 - GRACE

Grace had spent years believing asking for help was a weakness.
Her previous life had taught her the opposite.
Every mistake had been blamed on her.
Every need had been used against her.
Every moment of fear had been called exaggeration.
At Maple House, nobody asked her why she had stayed so long.
They asked what she needed now.
That difference changed everything.
Within months, Grace found work.
Her daughter returned to school.
She began counseling.
Then something unexpected happened.
She asked Emma for permission to volunteer.
“I want to help other women.”
Emma smiled.
“Why?”
“Because I know what it feels like to stand outside a door and not know whether anyone will open it.”
Emma handed her a volunteer badge.
“Then you understand this place better than most.”
Grace became one of the foundation's most trusted volunteers.
One evening, she saw another woman standing outside Maple House.
Soaked from the rain.
Terrified.
Grace walked toward her.
The woman looked up.
“Does this place really help?”
Grace smiled.
“Yes.”
“Who are you?”
Grace looked back at the warm doorway.
“Someone who used to stand exactly where you are.”
She opened the door.

And once again, kindness passed from one person to another.
